They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but sometimes, we think you need to call a spade a spade. If you’re the proud owner of a piece of furniture that would make Shrek seem attractive, but you don’t have the budget for a massive change, don’t despair! You don’t have to live with the unattractive piece as is – there arebeautifying options that don’t cost a lot of money. Here are a few cheap ways to fix common décor problems: Cover Up an Unappealing Table with a Scarf Corner tables are known for being functional (a euphuism for not-so-pretty). If you want to liven up an uggo table, grab a colorful scarf from your closet. Presto-chango, you now have a colorful – dare we say it –trendy table! Update Old Glass with Mirror Spray Paint Sometimes you want to see inside of a cabinet, but most of the time you probably don’t! If you have glass doors on a cabinet (or a glass top on a table), and would like the contents to be a little more private – and modern! – check out mirror-like aerosol spray paint. For less than $10, you can turn any pane of glass into a mirror. It’s easy – just spray and wait. Five minutes later, you’ve got yourself a mirror! Cover Up Beastly Dings with a Walnut If you have a wooden table or chair that would work pretty well if it wasn’t covered in dings or scratches, a walnut is all you need! This works almost like magic! Simply rub the walnut into the damaged area. After about five minutes, the ding will be gone. Update an Ugly Wastebasket with Some Color What’s a wastebasket with a little spray paint? A décor piece! Here’s how to make the magic happen: Clean the wastebasket thoroughly, and then give it a few coats of spray paint in the color of your choice. The spray paint will cover up any dings or stains. Tip: If your wastebasket has a flat bottom, flip it over. It’s now a side table! Erase Ugly Drink Rings with Mayo If you’re looking for a fast way to make a decent table look ugly, put a cold glass on it. Hello, drink rings! To erase these unsightly circles, grab a jar of real mayo (fake mayo doesn’t work). Dip a cloth into the jar, and then lightly rub the ring with the cloth until it’s coated with the mayo. Allow the condiment to sit on the stain overnight. In the morning, wipe it away. The ring will have disappeared!
