Ghost Garland

Create a spooky garland for your entryway by cutting out ghost shapes from 8.5 x 11 inch sheets of paper.

Stringing your ghosts together with twine, string, or strong thread, then secure around your doorway with thumbtacks. Find a free ghost template online or make up one of your own.

You can also decorate with a string of pumpkins or spiders. Or go crazy and mix together all three!

Black Bats and Spiders

Using black construction paper, cut out bat and spider shapes, gluing onto each creature small eyeballs cut from white paper.

Attach each bat or spider to a black pipe cleaner using a hot glue gun (they are a LOT cheaper than you might image – as little as $5).

Or, if you don’t have any pipe cleaners, substitute wood BBQ skewers, pens, or tightly rolled up magazine pages.

Larger Than Life Pumpkin

Mint’s own Pinterest page has a Halloween board devoted to budget costume, decor, and party ideas, including a larger than life pumpkin made from a few dozen blown up orange balloons.

Forget those pricey inflatable Halloween decorations and the sky high electricity bill they bring!

All you need is a large wall to secure the orange balloons to, plus a few green balloons for the stalk.

Quick Halloween Balloons

Blow up orange or white balloons. Grab a black marker and transform your balloon into a jack-o-lantern or a ghost. If you have green balloons, think aliens. Red balloons, think devil.

Or write messages on your balloons, like Boo! Tape or staple each balloon to your ceiling or porch.

Easy Haunted House

Create a spooky, haunted house atmosphere by covering all your furniture – indoor or outdoor – with white sheets.

Whether you’re throwing a Halloween party or just trying to scare trick or treaters, this is a quick mood changer!

DIY Halloween Wreath

Make a black wreath using crepe paper streamers or glossy ribbon. You’ll need a foam wreath, pins, scissors, and the crepe paper.

If you handle it carefully, you’ll be able to re-use this black wreath for many Halloweens to come.

Mummified Pumpkin

Mummify your pumpkin – instead of carving your pumpkin – with a little gauze or cheesecloth cut into strips and wrapped around your pumpkin. Make eyes from black and white felt or paper.

If you want to go the extra mile, brush the gauze or cheesecloth with glow in the dark paint.

Halloween Snowman

Stack a small, medium, and large pumpkin to create a Halloween-themed snowman. Dig holes on the side of the top pumpkin and insert sticks for arms.

To make him scary, spray the pumpkins with white paint and drape a black hooded cape over his arms.

Bonus points if you have a scythe for him to hold.

To make him festive, string garlands of fall-colored leaves around his shoulders and draw a happy face with a black marker on the smallest pumpkin.

Creepy Giant Web

Give your porch a creepy, crawly feel with a huge spider web made by tying together pieces of white string. Cut out large spiders from black construction paper and secure near the web.

You can really scare your trick-or-treaters by fastening a long thread to one of your spiders and suspending the spider high above your doorway with a hooked screw.

When someone comes to the door, quickly lower the spider so it falls near them. Boo!

Get Thrifty

If you aren’t up for DIYing your own Halloween decor, hit up your local thrift stores for Halloween decorations.

Goodwill and Salvation Army typically have lower prices than an independently run vintage boutique.

Look for orange, black, and white material you can repurpose into decorations or a Halloween costume.
