The Mega Millions jackpot hit $640 million last week, which was the largest jackpot amount ever. Despite the fact that the chances to win were 176 million to one, lottery ticket buyers from all walks of life were lined up at their local convenience stores.

Bloomberg, who coined the term Sucker index, compiled data to compare how much people spend on lottery tickets in each state, how much the win, and where they rank in the Sucker index.
